November seasonal British produce is all about meat, earthy root vegetables and plenty of greens. There’s still loads of variety and it’s a great month to explore England’s red wines for food pairings.
It may officially still be autumn, but it definitely feels like there’s a change in the air and the November seasonal British produce on the shelves feels much more wintry. There are plenty of greens, root vegetables and lots of meat. Alongside chicken, beef and pork which you can get all year round, November is right in the middle of game season. Wild duck is an excellent source of iron and if eaten without the crispy skin (we know that’s the tastiest bit) it’s actually a very lean meat and lower in calories than a skinless chicken breast. It’s also a great food pairing for the English red wines that are starting to emerge on the scene. November seasonal British produce doesn’t have much choice in the way of fruit – it’s all about apples. Luckily there are lots of varieties and they are very versatile so can be used in sweet or savoury dishes.
The earthy, forest floor notes of English Pinot Noir make a great companion for November seasonal dishes.
Whatever your preferred style, crisp and fresh or rich and oaky, November is great month for pairing English seasonal food with English Chardonnay.
You’ll know all about food and wine soul mates Champagne and oysters and for sure English Sparkling Wine and English oysters, which are in season from September to around March, are a great combo. Yet a glass of bubbly is also a terrific treat with humble dishes that can be cheaply and easily made from November seasonal British produce.
November can bring rough seas for fisherman. The catch will depend on the weather and the UK region.
